Kinja'd!!!

Just pulled the trigger on a new drone. The !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is very capable and after using a DJI Phantom for the last 2 and a half years, I’m very excited to try out the wares of a new company I’ve heard a lot of good things about. EXCITEMENT!

Anyone in the northeast looking for aerial footage? Cars and real estate are my forte :)

What’s the point of having a drone? I’m genuinely curious what the allure is.

Can I buy your old phantom?

I would use it for more GoPro footage possibilities. I’m not a photographer or film maker by any means but a drone allows you to do some really cool stuff.

Just got word I’m going to have more access to cars from work, so I may be planning a number of road trips for late summer/fall. Will let you know.

Yeah, I tried to get one of those through work but they were more worried about the permits and permissions required to fly for commercial work legally. So this is the next best solution that I can own personally and still pimp myself out for aerial work.

Provides awesome B-roll for car vids:

Gives a very different perspective than what people are used to:

And is overall very fun to fuck around with no matter what you’re doing.

Keeping it for educational purposes, sorry. I’m thinking about offering “drone lessons” and would want to use it for that.

No problem and not a bad idea with the rising popularity of them. What are the advantages of the 3DR over the DJI Phantom?

The real draw for me here is the integrated FPV and autonomous flight.

I think FPV is integrated into the new Phantom 3 but you’d still need to buy a screen or goggles to use it with. Autonomous flight would be an add-on to any phantom I’m pretty sure, plus I’ve heard a lot of really good reviews of 3DR customer service, including a “fly away replacement guarantee” which I very much like the sound of.

So basically I will be able to just tell this 3DR to “follow me” right out of the box, and it can be set to “orbit” or follow from front, or follow from back. Really cool stuff.

Ah so it does have the autonomous flight, I’ve been seeing a lot of rumors about that recently. Probably wouldn’t work too well for mountain biking but still a very neat feature and yea, that guarantee sounds ideal.

I think it would work really well for mountain biking given a virtual “leash” or the ability to tell it what heigh to follow at and at what distance. Will have to see how it works when it arrives.

But trees :/ You’re right though, the more open the terrain the better

Is it bad that I am considering dropping $1K just to have insane canyon carving footage?

No it’s not bad at all. You’d find much more to film as well. Or just hire me and I’ll come out and do it for you :)

OH MEMEMEMEMEME! I always wanted to shoot some tricky togue stuff n can’t think of a more cooler/ efficient way other than constructing a complex zip line.

Some of the roads climb the side of the valley or through a state park you’ll get waterfalls and gorges an nature n shit right against the roads.

New idea...you shooould just bring that to the WGI Vintage GP, when my car will be done and you can shoot all of your fantasy cars, driving awesome roads, as well as the scope of cars/ people on the main street straightaway.
